Optional beta statistics

We want to understand which channels help people find 18/36 and which steps they complete when getting started. These statistics are optional. You can use the beta in the same way without consenting.

On the beta page

Only when you select “Allow analytics” does your browser create a random identifier. We use this to record the visit to the beta page and the click on the TestFlight invitation, along with the specified source channel, such as “reddit_espresso”. We do not store a full source address. An unknown channel is counted as “unknown”.

Your choice, the identifier and any events that have not yet been sent are stored locally in your browser. Consent expires after no more than 90 days. This identifier does not automatically identify the app. A click is not evidence of an installation.

In a beta with usage statistics

If you expressly consent in a beta that includes this feature, the app uses its own random identifier. You can optionally specify which channel led you to the app. We then record the first observed app start after consent, active days, onboarding completion, the first newly added bean and the first and third newly saved shots. Existing data and imported samples are not analysed retroactively for this purpose.

The event type, selected channel, random identifiers and UTC calendar day of the event are transmitted. Names, bean and recipe contents, photos and taste ratings are not transmitted. The identifier is stored separately from your coffee backups. Website and app identifiers are not linked.

No such usage events are sent without consent to statistics. The data therefore represents only the group that voluntarily participates, not all installations. These statistics collected by us are separate from the information Apple provides through TestFlight.

Purpose, basis and storage

The analysis is used to improve the beta invitation, the onboarding experience and the app. It is based on your voluntary consent. Statistical events are processed on our server hosted by STRATO. No advertising networks or external analytics services are integrated. The analysis covers the last 90 days. Older events are deleted when the next statistical event arrives or maintenance runs.

For the technical transmission, the web server receives an IP address, as it does with any request. Our statistics dataset stores neither IP addresses nor browser identifiers. The separate technical server logs and their processing are described in the website privacy policy.

Withdrawal and deletion

On the beta page, you can withdraw your consent at any time under Beta analytics. In a beta with usage statistics, you will find the switch in your profile. Further collection stops immediately. A request to delete previous events associated with this identifier is sent as soon as the server is reachable.

To prevent delayed transmissions from recreating deleted data, the server may retain a non-reversible suppression value derived from the identifier for 90 days. It contains no events or channel information. You can also reach us using the contact address above. Your privacy rights are explained in the website privacy policy.

Apple TestFlight

Apple processes its own usage and diagnostic data during testing. Information is available under TestFlight & Privacy. Our app privacy policy also applies to your data within 18/36.
